Community Update - Rabbit Management
As part of the weed and pest management program across the reserve, rabbit baiting will be conducted over the next few weeks.
Rabbit baiting has started this week (21/3/22) in the Settlement Point and South Precinct areas. Free feed takes place this week and pindone baiting next week.
This will be managed by Bass Coast Landcare.
Thank you to all the volunteers who have assisted through the Rabbit Scan App.
Community Update - RabbitScan Information Session (held Feb 2022)
The Corinella Coast is experiencing an increase in the number of rabbits and active warrens/harbourage in our reserves and on private property. Rabbits already impact our delicate native fauna and flora by preventing seedling establishment and depletion of vegetation, as well as causing damage to gardens and house footings.
So that we can minimise impacts to our delicate ecosystem, Corinella Foreshore Reserve Committee of Management along with Bass Coast Landcare Network and the local community have been working together to document rabbit activity and plan for control efforts using the RabbitScan resource.
Thank you to those who were able to attend the RabbitScan presentation on Wednesday the 9th of February 2022. If you were not able to attend, you can find further information about RabbitScan, as well as some helpful rabbit management resources below.
We need your help to map rabbit activity using the RabbitScan resource. Peter West (FeralScan Coordinator) and Emma Sawyers (FeralScan Support) have provided some RabbitScan instructions and rabbit management resources for you below.
If you have further question or need assistance in using the resource, please do not hesitate to get in contact with them - Contact the FeralScan team. They are more than happy to help.
How to use RabbitScan
RabbitScan can be used by anyone to record rabbit activity, or to document the problems they are causing. It consists of a website, a mobile App and a community map of rabbit records.
The resource can be used to create a detailed map of local rabbit hotspot areas, which can guide rabbit control activities.
